PILATES IS …

FOR ALL. Pilates is great for everybody, from exercise rookie to elite athlete, young and old, male or female, pre-baby and post-baby.

A man is as young as his spinal column.

KIND. Pilates is practiced in a sequence that allows the heart, spine and joints to warm up before tackling the more challenging poses. The focus is on quality rather than quantity and control rather than calories burnt or kilograms lifted.

Contrology is not a system of haphazard exercises designed to produce only bulging muscles.

HEALING. Pilates can help with rehabilitation from injury and relieve chronic stress patterns in the body while also building a strong balanced body that is less prone to getting hurt in the first place.

Change happens through movement and movement heals.

BODY CONDITIONING. Pilates increases muscle strength and tone with a particular emphasis on the abdominal muscles, lower back, hips and bottom. Developing these deep, stabilizing muscles improves overall strength, endurance, balance and flexibility. It also allows you to carry yourself correctly, safely and more efficiently during all forms of exercise including skiing, cycling and running.

Not only is health a normal condition, but it is our duty to not only attain it but to maintain it.

FLATTERING. Pilates includes a lot of eccentric exercises that simultaneously strengthen and lengthen the muscles. This leaves you long and lean rather than tight, bulky and imbalanced. It also improves your posture, helping you to stand up straight with a long spine, open chest and an open heart.

You will feel better in ten sessions, look better in twenty sessions, and have a completely new body in thirty sessions.

MENTAL. Enhancing the connection between your mind and your body is fundamental to Pilates. Regular practice improves your body awareness, control and co-ordination while the concentration required during a class can free the mind from everyday distractions. Pilates develops will, increases self-confidence and self-esteem, reduces stress, develops discipline and increases energy levels. It also helps cultivate mindfulness.

Physical fitness is the first requisite of happiness.

A FUN AND EFFICIENT WORKOUT. Pilates is an efficient, flowing practice that stretches and strengthens all the major muscles in the body. The emphasis on quality over quantity and the set sequences of exercises ensure that you get maximum results in a short amount of time.

A few well-designed movements, properly performed in a balanced sequence, are worth hours of sloppy calisthenics or forced contortion.
